WHat about british alphabet
Thanks this helps a lot.
You cannot type symbols using the alphabet+Alt, you have to use the Numpad to type the Alt codes. Also, don't type on the top of the keyboard, type on the right, where there are /**-789+4561230. Enter, and Numlock. Make sure Numlock is on.(On my computer, it doesn't matter whether or not Numlock is on, I can do it either way, on or off)

Hey, ALTCommandFinder℠ (and everybody else with a French keyboard).
Me too I have a French keyboard and have been using this Alt-codes with no problems at all for over 20 years now. I use Windows 7 & Chrome.
Cokito, sorry bro, if you want to have the accents alone (to be clear, the tildes) then you'll have to open your Word and launch the Special Symbols & Characters Map, then explore a set (let's say Arial) until you find what you're looking for. At the bottom of the Special Symbols & Characters Map you'll find, or be able to switch to, the ASCII codes (which = Alt Codes, you'll still need to hold down the Alt key). And voilà ("à" typed with my French keyboard layout, in case you're wondering).

Hey Mike, did you notice the small numbers on the right side of the keyboard? Press Number Lock (Function + Scroll Lock on my computer) and use those numbers.
If you have a French keyboard, what do you get them from, the character map?
How can I get only accent, just like on spanish keyboards? I have a french one.
Why don't computers come with this valuable and useful information?
What about Russian alphabet?
Hold down the alt-key and type in the numbers:
Example: alt+"165" (in other words, keep holding "alt" until you type in all three numbers - (alt+1, alt+6, alt+5) yields the following character: Ñ
I hold down alt and then numbers on top as there is no number pad on my Lenovo carbon laptop. No luck. Nothing happens. Any help?
When using ALT codes, you must type the number using the number pad, not the numbers on the top row of the keyboard.
@still puzzled - to type the letter, hold down the alt key and type the number. when you release the alt key, the letter should appear. i've noticed this process does not work in a few applications/programs.
I have Windows 7. When I hold down the alt key and type a letter, nothing happens.Help. Thanks
Thanks. This has helped me a lot with my Spanish presentations.
This website is very useful and I love using the ALT codes when I'm at school doing my Spanish class online. I am even starting to remember them on my own now.
