This is for... I'm not telling my name. I found something on it.Stem (music) ... Stems may point up or down. Different-facing stems indicate the voice for polyphonic music written on the same staff. Within one voice, the stems usually point down for notes on the middle line or higher, and up for those below.

Peter Måhlin 2015-11-01 21:39:40

One small, but important thing: You press down ALT, then keying the numbers - BUT ON THE NUMERIC KEYPAD! That goes for any "full size" keyboards. There are supposed to be ways to do it on laptops too - but I haven't made notes of that. I have bought a full size keyboard for my laptop, because I write zillions of letters. I also have hooked up a much larger display, so now my cats takes turns to sleep on the closed lid of the laptop.

I tried Alt+9838 on WordPad but it gave me a square with a ? in it. Although if you like typing faces, go to WordPad and type Alt+3232 and near. Lowest point is Alt+3210. Alt+3232 then _, then Alt +3232.

What about a half note?

fontguy 2014-09-26 10:03:43

Maybe much of this advice only applies to a keyboard with a standard USA layout, on a UK keyboard for instance, some of the odd punctuation things are very different. (pounds sterling sign above 3 for example). Also different programs react differently - for me Wordpad is good with Alt plus 4-digit-code in the numbers section on the right, but MIcrosoft Word isn't as happy. Most standard fonts don't have characters for obscure musical signs, they give you the basics, that's all - they're for word processing after all and give you letters, numbers, punctuation, mathematical symbols, and others but they're not intended to solve every conceiveble problem. Special musical fonts will have the symbols you require, some free, some professional ones from MyFonts.

Not sure if this applies to all Windows programs, but I'm using Windows 7 and for me it's all very simple. To get the degree symbol, just holding the alt while pressing 0174 will produce °. Have some fun and use the alt key and make up numbers by doing this ... ♂♀♪♫☼ which are alt plus these corresponding numbers 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. Check it out for yourself. Mac doesn't use Alt +, but Option+, or Option+Shift+. Also, in the top right corner of your screen, there is a flag with the language on it. Click on that, and click show character palette/viewer depending on the version.
if that option is not there, click open Language and Text Preferences. from here select Input sources and check off the box for Character/Keyboard and Character viewer depending on the version. AFter that go back to the flag and click show character palette/viewer.
From there you can find 'notes' in one of the options.

Hi If you are pressing alt and the number and it is is not coming, there are couple of situations of what might have happened:

You clicked on the function keys.
You clicked on the normal function keys at the top of your keyboard.
You might be accidentally pressing Ctrl button.
Your Num Lock was off. This is the most common situation. Hope it helped!
Thanks, Tapasmi
