My keyboard doesn't do anything when I typed alt+1 all the way to alt+31, I wonder why? I checked that I had the num lock on(although it doesn't make any difference when I used alt codes because it still worked with it off). I have an ASUS keyboard, is that the reason?

Rosemary Fraser 2016-04-24 09:59:19

I have a Mac and alt + g works for the copyright symbol

Daisy 2016-04-09 21:49:03

I use Chrome book and the copyright symbol isn`t showing on the keyboard. Do this: Hold shift and type parenthesis ( then the letter c then parenthesis )no space, press enter

Shift+(c)then press enter gives you this ©

Dr Ingus 2015-12-29 03:40:41

It has to be done on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. Go somewhere you can type, hold alt, type the code, let go of alt. If it doesn't work try toggling number pad then try it again. Be warned that certain inputs can do weird things like refresh the page or close the page.

2tone 2015-11-04 19:39:26

i tried them all none seem to be working for me... so i did the next best thing... copy and paste... DONE

GT 2015-10-28 22:07:28

On a full keyboard you must use the numeric keypad or equivalent on a laptop. These keys have different underlying codes that will create the © symbol (executed as described) ;-)

Christina 2015-10-16 12:37:40

Have tried all of the above, with no success. I have always used 'alt' + 'ctrl' to get the copyright symbol. But it is now not working on my powerpoint slide. Help please required...............

@keith (2015-08-04 08:41:48)

You need to turn off autocorrect in Word. Choose "File" in the menu, then Options, then "Proofing".

You will see a button "Autocorrect Options". Click that, and you can choose exactly what symbols are autocorrected. (Sorry if my wording is not exactly correct - I use the German version of Word).

how do I get the copyright symbol on a smart phone keyboard?

keith 2015-08-04 08:41:48

My external laptop keyboard gives the © symbol when I type (C) into a Word doc. This is very annoying if you want to indicate the units are Celsius. Can't seem to turn it off . The Laptop's own keyboard doesn't do this though. You can use using Alt + 248 give a degree symbol so I can use (°C) which looks pretty good.

coriander 2015-06-29 00:30:22

ctrl+alt+C to give © works on my Dell XPS13 laptop which has no numeric keypad nor any numlock option at all. This works here as above, and also inside Paintshop Pro X for adding watermarks, but in Photoshop CC ctrl-alt-C opens canvas size window.

Nola 2015-06-23 17:46:59

on ordinary keyboards is created by holding down the ALT KEY and at the same time use the small set of numbers on the right to type 0169.
They don't have the separate set of numbers in a block on the right.
Instead, that set of numbers are written in blue on the top right of other keys.
On mine, the 0169 is these keys. M=0,J=1,O=6, 9=9.
So hold down FN with ALT and then while holding type the blue numbers for 0169.
Use a regular IBM keyboard with USB (or wireless)

TheFons 2015-03-15 12:40:39

on HP laptop: set numlock to ON using [FN]+ [num lk] (do not us the square brackets)
now use the [ALT+ the numbers on the letters mjkluio789] to get the required [ALT+Numbers]
Do not use the top row numbers, these dont work with the [ALT] (Except de numbers 789m those are also active in numlock mode)

MidnightPotato 2015-02-05 05:01:21

Cyndy, it's probably because you are typing Alt + 169 You have to remember to type the 0

Cyndy 2014-11-25 15:39:28

The same code given for the copyright symbol on this page is given for a completely different symbol on the home page, the "⌐" symbol, which is all I'm getting for '0169'. So what is the real code for the copyright symbol??

jose 2014-10-24 11:40:02

Hold shift and alt then press 0169. I have an acer laptop

TallMaryAnn 2014-08-26 16:49:31

I have a brand new computer, that doesn't have a separate number pad, and can't get it to work.

© On some lap tops such as mine (Old Toshiba) You have to hold the ' FN ' button and the alt button at the same time while pressing the numbers. On mine there are numbers (small kinda invisible) on the ' 7, 8, 9, U, I, O, J, K, L, M ' and those are the numbers you can press insted of the other numbers :)

And such laptop is a Windows 8 laptop, if I'm not mistaken.

omniwatch 2014-06-22 12:11:01

@ = Alt+64

Tracey 2014-05-31 06:12:58

What other keys work for the @ sign on my laptop

J Wagner 2014-05-13 23:08:02

This isn't possible on all laptops. My older laptop had no num lock key. Luckily, my new one does. Not all laptops can perform laptops at all, most of which are small sized.

c0oLoNe 2014-04-11 13:10:55

For those who do not have NUM Pad on their laptops, check your UIOJKLNM, keys..
They must have small numbers printed on them.

Suzanna 2014-04-09 00:53:25

None of these suggestions worked for me. So, I copied a © and pasted it into the text block. Easy peasy!

IZZ 2014-04-04 05:00:44

If you're using laptop, you 've to press 'fn+NumLk', then you can use the alt-codes

KingDrummer 2014-03-13 16:14:54

I have a Toshiba laptop, and I read somewhere that you have to only use the keyboard pad to the right (ex. alt + random number), but my laptop doesn't have that. Can someone please tell me how? Thanks!!!!!!

Anil kumar 2014-01-28 09:21:41

it does not work for me , I hold down fn+alt keys did not get right result . I have Asus X45C series

Zacke © 2014-01-06 04:55:36

you can allso press Alt+8888 to get it ;) ©

johnsnow 2013-12-18 14:51:34

Depends on the lap top. Try holding down both the FN and Alt key. With most laptops, unless you have a built in Num Pad, you will have to use the FN number pad, usually to the right hand side of the keyboard; the number string(Top of keyboard) will not register correctly. If you DO have a built in Num Pad, simply Alt 0169(number pad keys) should work for you. As previously stated, if you do NOT have a built in Num Pad, you will have to use/hold the FN key, WHILE holding the Alt key, and put in "0169" from the FN Num Pad

Annie 2013-12-11 15:56:01

I have a Windows 8 laptop and I'm trying to make a Copyright symbol . The alt code isn't working.
Neither is holding down the Function key.

Scott 2013-11-24 22:34:53

Hold the FN + ALT key and type in 0169 with a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I tried all of the previous options without any luck. I think it may be the type of computer you have too.

Pete 2013-11-21 12:42:14

Ho do I get the symbol for "Produced" which is a "P" in a circle like the ©?

dave 2013-09-05 19:11:56

Hold the ALT key and type the number 0169 to get copyright symbol. works 1st time thanks for the info.

Mike 2013-09-01 15:17:01

With laptops you have to hold the function key down and use the number pad. Usually like M,J,I,L,K area. it depends on the lappy but you should see some of the letters have little blue (or different color) number or sign marks on them. Thats what the function (FN) key is for.

Octav 2013-07-21 12:55:40

Works only with the numpad

@larry 2013-05-20 15:33:52

You have to type in the zero 0169=© and 169=⌐

larry 2013-04-20 04:59:46

® why did this come out with alt + 169???

Michael 2013-03-28 21:51:26

Doesn't work for me...??? do you have to have a seperate number pad? I have a laptop that only has the number keys at the top of the keyboard...
